Approaching any research topic—whether a museum or a landscape marked by its wounds and its farmers—means being compelled to make a choice: distance or proximity, observation or contact, love or caution, friendship or rigour? This workshop presents a series of escape routes from the methodological conservatism that separates practice from theory, thought from labour, concepts from tools. The stories of a number of beverages will intersect with the personal stories of participants—present and absent, human and non-human alike—seeking to challenge the boundary between the personal and the philosophical, between the search for something, for oneself, or simply for intimacy with things and their reasons.
