Scuola Piccola Zattere hosts a conversation with Nikima Jagudajev, an Austrian-Uzbek artist and choreographer born in 1990 in the United States, whose work is currently featured in the exhibition Like, on view until October 18. Their performative practice is an act of world-building in which unexpected encounters take place, through structures often resembling games.

The event focuses on the background to the creative process behind Like, a new commission and the centerpiece of the exhibition project. Like is an interactive digital environment that intertwines the languages of video games and documentary, inviting the public to take an active part in the development of the narrative. The work stems from Basically, a long-term research project initiated by Jagudajev in 2020 and conceived as a “choreographic game” in which performers and spectators participate in the shared construction of a world.

In exploring some of the key questions running through the work, the artist will be joined in an open discussion on performative practices and the relationship between the live dimension and museum space by Michelangelo Miccolis, an artist and performer whose practice spans writing, production, and curating, and by Caterina Molteni, curator at MAMbo – Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna, where she develops a research practice focused on performative practices.

Michelangelo Miccolis, born in 1981 in Mexico City, is an artist and performer currently based in Brussels, with a multidisciplinary practice spanning writing, production, and curation. Founder and curator of IMMATERIAL, an annual performance program at Feria Material, Mexico City (since 2017). Former guest curator at Cabaret Voltaire (2017–19) and curator at Shedhalle (2020–2025), Zurich. Frequent collaborator with leading artists and institutions worldwide, including Tate Modern, La Biennale di Venezia, Museo Reina Sofía, and more.

Caterina Molteni is a curator at MAMbo – Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna, where, among other projects, she works on ART CITY Bologna. In 2023, she curated the first Italian retrospective of Yvonne Rainer, Yvonne Rainer: Words, Dances, Films. From 2016 to 2019, she worked at Castello di Rivoli Museo d'Arte Contemporanea, where she was responsible for public programs and digital content. Between 2014 and 2019, she was director and co-founder of TILE project space, a non-profit platform dedicated to contemporary Italian art. She is the author of the monographs Italo Zuffi 96–22 (Corraini Edizioni, 2022) and Ludovica Carbotta. Very Well on My Own (Edizioni MAMbo, 2024). In 2024–2025, she received the Library Research Grant from the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles and the Italian Council 13, promoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture. She regularly writes for ARTNews Italia, and her texts have appeared, among others, in Mousse Magazine, NERO Editions, Flash Art Italia, and Kabul Magazine.
