Doctor Dance is not-not a doctor. Doctor Dance was born out of Eleanor Bauer’s practice-based PhD in Performative and Mediated Practices with a specialization in Choreography, which started in 2017 and was completed in 2022 at Stockholm University of the Arts. Doctor Dance acted as an alter-ego (channeling an older, wiser, more confident embodiment of Bauer’s accumulated studies in dance), coping mechanism or antidote (for the nagging imposter syndrome of getting a PhD in artistic practice), and vehicle (for promoting the power of Dance to process, coordinate, teach, integrate and heal all sorts of things beyond dance itself). Bauer’s artistic research project entitled choreo | graphy was concerned with the media-specificity of thinking in dance and its translation into other domains, namely written and spoken language.  During the pandemic, Doctor Dance held gallery-style appointments online, wherein individuals could book sessions with Doctor Dance that would be facilitated and livestreamed on Instagram Live.
