In 1890, John Henry Pepper published The True History of the Ghost: And All About Metempsychosis, in which he described the workings of his famous device, Pepper’s Ghost — an apparatus capable of simulating immaterial presences through a system of refraction and light.

This invention inspires the title of the program, a series of performative practices curated by Edoardo Lazzari, marking the conclusion of his fellowship at Scuola Piccola Zattere. A curatorial action aimed at bringing to light poetic affinities and formal resonances between local and non-local artists, supporting practices that — through different languages — explore the threshold between the visible and the invisible, between gesture and memory. Bodies, voices, and gestures become apparition, interference, trace: the ghost thus is a curatorial proposition, a threshold where absence takes on a form, a duration, a possibility for relation.
