Workshop for families

Oltreforma presents NODO, a creative workshop exploring maritime knots and unconventional forms of communication.

Knots are part of our daily lives: we encounter them when tying our shoes, watching sailorə moor boats in the lagoon, or in less obvious contexts — in textiles, hairstyles, and architectural structures.

Throughout the workshop, we will delve into both the technique and the meaning of knots, exploring their practical uses, creative applications, and communicative potential. We will tangle and untangle ropes and thoughts to create a small knotted artwork.

Using strings, ropes, and cords of different kinds, children aged 6 to 11 will experiment with various knots from the Venetian maritime tradition — such as the reef knot, the bowline, and the clove hitch — discovering how knots can become a language: from the Quechua quipu ("talking knots") to the woven nests of weaver birds.

Starting from Morse code and choosing a word to represent, each participant will create a bracelet, combining meaning and creativity through the knots they have learned.

The workshop will take place on Thursday, June 12, from 3.30 pm to 5.00 pm.
It is free of charge and recommended for children aged 6 to 11.

For information and registration, please write to [email protected] by Wednesday, May 11 at 6.00 pm.

The workshop will be held within the installation Geometrie del Possibile by artist Andrea Canepa, at Scuola Piccola Zattere.
