Scuola Piccola Zattere presents a new space dedicated to reading, created in collaboration with MACK, an independent publishing house of books on contemporary art, photography, critical theory, film, and architecture.

Founded in 2010 by Michael Mack and based between the UK and Italy, MACK works with internationally renowned authors and emerging voices who are particularly engaged with the book form and its possibilities. Encompassing the imprints SPBH Editions and Important Flowers, as well as collaborations with A24 and the Judd Foundation, the MACK list explores a wide range of styles and perspectives: from manifestos on the future of architecture to collections of essays, from debut artist’s books to definitive monographs by painters, photographers, and filmmakers.

The Reading Room is situated in the Ridotto space, dedicated to talks, workshops, seminars, and projects by Scuola Piccola Zattere, sitting alongside the installation Geometrie del Possibile by artist Andrea Canepa.
The furniture is designed by Fosbury Architecture, the collective of architects who curated the Italian Pavilion at the 2023 Architecture Biennale. Modular and flexible in structure, the new Reading Room furniture extends the language of Fosbury’s other furnishings for the Scuola. The new space offers visitors the opportunity to explore publications from MACK’s archive alongside first copies of the newest releases, inviting pause, reflection, and discovery.

In the coming months, the Reading Room will host a program of presentations, conversations, and meetings with authors working in the fields of art, architecture, and film.
