Exhibition
The exhibition presents a selection of works by the artists who participated to the fellowship program at Scuola Piccola Zattere during the season 2025-2026, including several new commissions developed during their research in Venice.
The title evokes the well-known narrative pact whereby the audience of a work of fiction suspends their rational judgment regarding the truthfulness of a story in order to surrender to the pleasure of storytelling, temporarily granting the status of reality to fanciful speculations, imaginary worlds, and unlikely events. Beyond the realm of artistic fiction, however, there exists a world of official accounts, legal reports, scientific expositions, and historiographical and museological narratives, which similarly demand faith in their veracity and authority. The works in the exhibition expose the limits of this presumption and claim, highlighting the inconsistencies, omissions, and paradoxes, as well as the constructed and artificial nature of institutional and dominant narratives. By way of blending fiction and reality, gravity and humor, scientific rigor and artistic imagination, the artists invite the public to engage in a renewed practice of doubt.
The Suspension of Doubt with projects by Maja Bojanić & Brin Žvan, Jermay Michael Gabriel and Royal Divorce is curated by Irene Calderoni and Margherita Falqui.
