Residenza breve
A cloud is visible only while it is in motion, in flux, while it is changing: it is precisely this that makes it a thing, while at the same time preventing it from being a thing.
— Sadie Plant
To have one's head in the clouds is an expression that both suspends and defines an emotional state. Often, in order to clarify a feeling, language becomes entangled in evanescent metaphors — cloud-like images that grasp inner movements. August Strindberg was fascinated by the clouds over the sky of Stockholm; for many years he observed them, recorded them, and translated them into his chamber theatre. An intimate form of theatre, designed for small spaces that could contain an atmosphere.
By transforming the inner landscape into an outer one, Filippo Andreatta explores clouds as a device for a chamber theatre in which miniature cloud scenographies restore theatre to its own ephemerality. The architecture of an Italian-style theatre — the Valli Theatre in Reggio Emilia — is reduced to scale and becomes a maquette, an intimate space where representational distance dissolves into delicate scenic and celestial artifices.
The soundtrack for this miniature theatre is Melodie by the composer Louis Andriessen, a work in which piano and recorder seek a perfect unison, constantly challenged by timbral fluctuations and subtle rhythmic micro-variations. In this futile attempt, near-success is the highest achievement possible: an approximation, an approach toward something that ultimately remains elusive.
nuvolario #Teatro_da_Camera is part of nuvolario, an ongoing investigation that looks upward to explore the elusive vertigo of celestial landscapes and their sedimentation in our present.
