Architect and spatial designer Markus Miessen presented his project Cultures of Assembly, focusing on the relevance of small-scale, decentralised spatial formats in the production of local knowledge. Starting from the question of what might constitute the contemporary equivalent of the bonfire as the original site of assembly, the project The Esch Clinics, developed by Miessen at the Esch Chair in collaboration with César Reyes, was presented as a possible model.
Introduced by fellow Maria Eugenia Frizzele and researcher and writer Noemi Biasetton, the event opened a conversation with participants on the themes of assembly, proximity, and contemporary forms of political and spatial cohabitation.
